A chairde, I thought it might be a fun exercise to determine what my name, Bradford, would be in Irish. Bradford means "a broad ford". In case you didn't know, a ford is a shallow body of water that can be crossed by wading. Any ideas out there that would have a similar meaning but be less than a million characters? It's no fun to simply "Gaelicize" an English name! :-) Slán, Bradford |

Hi Bradford, Just out of interest is that a first or surame? In Irish, ford = Áth broad = Leathan A "broad ford" would be "áth leathan" Doesn't really sound like a name though. Slán, Oliver. |

Dia duit, a Oliver, Heh-heh... That's the great thing about having a name like Bradford. It can be either! Actually in this case it is my first name. Hmmm... Áthleathan, eh? Well, I must say it'd be very unique! Or, I could go by Leathan for short. :-) As I said before, it's just no fun to do something like "Bradfórd" and call it good. Go raibh maith agat, mo chara! Leathan :-) |
