Friends,
I am visiting Ireland for the 3rd. time in Feb. I would truly like to learn to sing "A Soldiers Song" in Irish. While I have copies in both Irish and English, I feel the best way to learn it is to have someone write it out phoneticly. Can anyone help? I live in Wall.
Thank You
ART

Go to a website and buy a CD with 'Amhran na Bhfiann' on it.

a chara,

Try online at http://www.winmx.com and see if you can download it there.

I won't type out the entire anthem for you, but just the part most frequently sang, the chorus:

Sinne Firnna Fáil
( Shin-ah fian-ah fall)

A tá fé gheall ag Éirinn,
(at-aw fay gall egg air-in)

buion dár slua
(be-in dar slu)

Thar toinn do ráinig chugainn,
(har tin do raw coo-in)

Fé mhóid bheith saor.
(fay void vet sair) (sair like "air" but with an S at the start)

Sean tír ár sinsir feasta
(Shan teer air shin-shar fasta)

Ní fhagfar fé'n tiorán ná fé'n tráil
(Knee awg-are fay-in teer-on naw fay-in trall)

Anocht a théam sa bhearna bhaoil,
(Ah nuckt a haim sah barna bail)

Le gean ar Ghaeil chun báis nó saoil
(Lay gann air gwhale cun boss no sail)

Le guna screach fé lámhach na bpiléar
(Lay goona scrack fay la-rack nah pillear)

Seo libh canaídh Amhrán na bhFiann.
(Sho liv con-ah A-rawn nah vian)

I tried my best here, but others might come along and give you a better way of saying it.

Good Luck.

ná habair é, a chara

Correction though:

"Sinne Fianna Fáil" (not firnna), I was suprised by the amount of websites, with the anthem, that had that mistake in it.
