I came across the following:
"Tá súil agam go mbainfidh tú taitneamh as.
the go + prefixed m + fidh leads me to think subjunctive, future. Is there a future subjunctive? How would you translate the sentence?
Táim ag dul anonn in aois. Nár fhéad tú faire aon uaire liom a dhéanamh?

Bainfidh -- yes. But the version I encountered had a prefixed m. Perhaps it was a typo?

This is the way I would put it: something stated in the fo-shuiteach or subjunctive is not actually occurring or has not occurred - ergo the "fo-" or "sub-" prefixes - it is something which (still) is "below" the level of actual occurrence.
The future tense also deals with an event whose actual occurrence has not already become a reality. A separate future subjunctive form of verbs would therefore have a degree of redundancy.
Is geal leis an bhfiach dubh a ghearrcach féin. |
