I got a email from GAEILGE-A today, written by marion gunn, saying this:

"Tá a fhios agam nach gá go mbeadh tuairiscí i nuachtán ar bith iomlán cruinn, ach tá ceann i leathanach 5 ("Home News") Tráthscéal Éireann (Irish Times) an lae inniu (2011-01-17) a bhain stad asam is mé á léamh i gcaifé i Sráid Fhearchair inniu.

"Welfare officials refuse benefits to returning exiles" is teideal don alt sin, a thiomsaigh Jamie Smyth.

Má tá bunús ar bith lena bhfuil ráite san alt sin, go háirithe bunús ar bith leis an litir oifigiúil stáit a foilsíodh verbatim ann, ba chúis imní dár lucht imirce agus ba chúis sceoin agus feirge dá muintir é (agus do shaoránaigh uile ár dtíre, idir óg is aosta)."

The article is at http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2011/0117/1224287680231.html

I don't want to violate copyright but quoting the whole article, which is at available at that link, but a man was told this by Irish welfare officials in a letter quoted there:

quote:

At present, Ireland has one of the highest rates of unemployment in all 25 EU states. By voluntarily remaining in this State, you are, therefore deemed to have placed yourself in a position where you will not be able to provide for your own independent financial support,” said the letter refusing his claim for a payment.

I know we don't like controversial posts here, although I don't think anyone is likely to think this a great development, so maybe not to controversial, but I will stop here anyway. Do people all get the GAEILGE-A messages?
