This essay was published first in Feasta

http://www.cnag.ie/campaign/1282559635stadas_na_gaeilge_san_ardteistimeireacht__ na_reasuin_leis_lunasa_2010.pdf (leagan Gaeilge)

http://www.cnag.ie/campaign/1282559559the_status_of_irish_in_the_leaving_certifi cate__the_reasons_why_august_2010.pdf (English Version).

In particular, it examines the fate of languages in the UK system after they were made optional. It is a systematic debunking of the argument "Make it optional and more people will learn better Irish"

That is an excellent essay. It should be sent to every TD in the Dáil by as many people as possible. Friends of the Irish language, Cairde na Gaeilge, should forget their customary reticence and make themselves known to their local TDs -- not to mention potential TDs if there are alternative candidates looking for support -- and personally go through that essay with them in their local "clinics".

We also need a list of the 160 e-mail addresses for a concerted campaign to make our views known to each and every one of the TDs in the Dáil.

These colleagues of Ivor Callely et al cannot be allowed to further destroy the status of Irish within our independent sovereign state through thoughtless incompetence.

They have already done enough damage to our economy by failing to recognise the obvious growth of the numerous financial problems. Destroying the status of Irish is a move we can anticipate and resist.

Comhghairdeas leat, a Aonghuis, for drawing this essay to our attention. We owe a debt of gratitude to Maolsheachlainn Ó Caollaí for researching and writing it.

Not to boast but I got an A1 in Honours this year, DELIGHTED! I have to say this forum was an excellent resource throughout the year.

Thanks everyone for being so generous with your knowledge.

Well done Liam. I too found it a great resource when studying for my TEG A2, in which I achieved a Merit, falling a few marks short of an Honours. This was my first written Irish exam in 47 years! I second your thanks to Daltaiboarders for their generosity.

Comhgháirdeas, a Liam. Is fíorchúis bróid é sin. Anois, coinnigh beo é!

Maith thú DMD. Caithfidh mise aghaidh a thabhairt ar an TEG lá éigin agus táim as cleachtadh i gcursaí scrúdaithe chomh maith.

Chuireas féin acu ar fad é, ó chuir tú i'm aigne é.

(Níl meas mada agam ar mo theachtaí áitiúla; na ceanna rialtais ach go háirithe Dick Roche: go bhfóire Dia orm).

Well, I’ll be pressing on onwards to TEG B1. I’m also helping some friends to reconnect with Irish after decades of absence. Is rud iontach é a bheith ag múineadh! I source my worksheets etc from what is available from Breacadh (adapting them to my needs) and, of course, what I come up with myself.
An Chilleasrach. Molaim an TEG! Tá a lán obair i gceist ach bhain mé taitneamh as. Is í an fhadhb is mó atá orm ná mo litriú, fadhb atá orm i mBéarla chomh maith! Faraor, ní raibh aon ranganna TEG le fáil i mo cheantar féin, ach íoslódáil mé an chuid is mó den obair as suíomh TEG.
