I am getting desperate looking for texts of Conamara Irish with accompanying cds/sound files. I have searched through the RnaG archives for podcasts with things like book readings and it's getting too time consuming! Cur amú ama gan amhras agus an méid le foghlaim agam go fóill.

I did search on Litríocht and CIC websites, but I can't find stuff for Conamara. If it's there it's not easy to find.

So has anyone come across book and cd with native Conamara speakers? Ideally I'm looking for novels or short stories.. but speeches, or readings, or anything would be great!!

Grmma rr!

Well, if you like folk-lore, there's a GREAT book (with CD's) called "Bróga Páipéir agus Stocaí Bainne Ramhair".

Here's the link:

Fantastic, excellent stuff, thank you!

I forgot to post something I found on RnaG last night.

Joe Steve Ó Neachtain has a new collection of Short Stories called 'Salann Garbh' and there is a reading by Joe Steve of one of these short stories 'Oscailt súl' on a podchraolachán ar RnaG ag seo:

Have had it in my mind to get this book anyway, so I'm buying it in Easons on Friday so I'll have it for the weekend. Doing out the transcription tonight.

Actually, would anyone like to do this with me? And see can we come up with the full transcription of the story ourselves before we release the text?

Fuair mé Gugalaí Gug mar bhronntanas anuraidh agus is féidir liom é a mholadh d'aon duine ag tosaí amach ar mhaith leis a chuid Gaeilge a chur chun cinn.

Rinne mé iarratas sa leabharlann áitiúil tráthnóna ar Cré na Cille (an leagan a bhfuil dlúthdhioscaí ag gabháil leis) agus ar Bróga Páipéir agus stocaí bainne ramhair, agus gheobhaidh mé mo chóip féin de Salann Garbh sa tsiopa amárach le cúnamh Dé. Ag súil go mór leis! 'Treat' mór a bheas ann.

Go raibh maith agaibh do na moltaí. Beidh mé cruógach :)

An bhfuil Cré na Cille (an leabhar) ar fáil agat cheana féin, a Shinéad? Níor cuireadh leabhar agus dlúthdhioscaí amach in éineacht go bhfios dom... chuile sheans go bhfaighidh tú na dlúthdhioscaí mar thoradh ar d'iarratas leabharlainne ach gan an leabhar a bheith ina ndáil.

Ar an dea-uair tá sé arís i gcló, rud nach raibh le blianta beaga anuas. Beidh sé ag Litríocht, nó i siopa an Chónartha más i mBÁC duit.

Níl na dlúthdhioscaí sin ag teacht go díreach leis an leabhar ach tá siad gar go leor do. Abairt nó dhó in easnamh anseo 's ansiúd ach ná cuireadh sé sin as duit.

Chuir RnaG gearrscéal le Máirtín Ó Cadhain amach cúpla bliain ó shin. "An tOthar" ba theideal leis. Tá an comhad fuaime in áit eicínt agam go fóill - cuirfidh mé chugat é más mian leat. Amhail Cré na Cille, aisteoireacht atá ann seachas léamh os ard, ach tá sé réasúnta gar don scéal clóite mar sin féin.

Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!

Ba mhaith liomsa an comhad fuaime sin, a Abigail.
