They normally do most of the business related to Irish in Irish.

The 1% Danny cites refers to plenary debates, not commitees.

More info:

From the Irish Times via Cogar:
http://www.cogar.ie/default.aspx?treeid=37&NewsItemID=3744

quote:

Representatives from Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge; Conradh na Gaeilge; Pobal; Comhluadar; TG4; Donnacha Ó hÉalaithe Uasal; and Foras na Gaeilge will submit their views on the strategy to the Joint Committee on Arts, Sport, Tourism, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.

I've read that Guth na Gaeltachta members (based in Donegal) are angry that their group wasn't invited. No group based in the Gaeltacht was invited!

http://www.cogar.ie/default.aspx?treeid=37&NewsItemID=3747

Mr. Ó hÉalaithe will, as always, avoid sugar coating and will inject some reality into the debate, but where are the Gaeltacht *groups*?

This is only the first of the meetings.

I think Guth na Gaeltachta are likely to be invited for a follow up.

People have until February to make submissions to teh Committee, according to what Padráig Ó hAoláin said an Adhmhaidin (RnaG) yesterday, when he was asked why Údarás na Gaeltachta wasn't invited. (They will be transformed under the scheme)

Received via e-mail from GnaG's list:

quote:

Tá sé aontaithe ag an gComhchoiste cruinniú eile a bheith ann go luath le deis a thabhairt do eagraíochtaí Gaeltachta a dtuairimí a thabhairt faoin Straitéis. Tá Guth na Gaeltachta ag moladh do na Gaeltachtaí éagsúla cruinnithe poiblí a bheith acu roimh ré le plé a dhéanamh air. Bhí cruinniú poiblí i nGaoth Dobhair do Ghaeltachtaí Dhún na nGall ar an 15 Eanáir agus tá na miontuairiscí ón chruinniú sin le fáil ar www.guthnag.com

That is the next meeting of the commitee. They deal with other issues - they have a very broad remit.

I don't know that any meeting to discuss the strategy has been scheduled.

I'd expect the final meeting to involve the Minister, and possibly draft legislation.

Éamón Ó Cuív mentioned publishing legislation bu Seachtain na Gaeilge - mid march.
