Chonaic mé é. Tadhg is made out to be a ferociously fanatical Gaeilgeoir insisting on the waiter bringing a menu in Irish and refusing a bilingual one. I suppose it was no accident that he was made up to look like Adolf Hitler. Considerable fun is generated when he feeds ridiculous lines in Irish to Val -- An maith leat fir a phógadh? An dtabharfaidh tú deontas €10,000 dúinn? etc -- and Val, pretending he understands Irish well, responds to each one with "Sea" and a politician's false laugh. Val has to get his pal who can really speak Irish to rescind whatever promises he had inadvertantly made during the meal. I think it is indicative of the rise of the Irish language that comedians are now including the English/Irish relationship in their shows. Ever since the Pope on his visit to Ireland got a huge roar from the crowd every time he said "Máthair Dé" or "In ainm an Athar agus an Mhic agus an Spioraid Naoimh" no one can be in any doubt but that the Irish language has a definite place in the Irish psyche. For some it may not be much. For others it is a desire to learn it. Others seek to use it. Agus araile. Everyone knows it is part of what we are. |

Cé ná fuil Aongus ag lua an dlí féin ach an léirmhíniú is coitianta ar an Idirghréasán. (Message edited by Domhnaillín_Breac_na_dTruslóg on December 22, 2009) |

Ag tagairt d' atoradh ar an dlí a bhí mé. Tá mé bréan den scigléiriú úd ar an nGaeilgeoir cantalach. |

Ní fhaca mé fhéin é. Ní fheidhmíonn an áis athsheanma idirlín de chuid RTÉ lasmuigh d'oileán na hÉireann -d'ainneoin an ghrá agus an omóis don diaspóra a bheith á mhaíomh ag gach Uachtarán ó Mháire Nic Róibín i leith! ;-). Ach féadaim an BBC a fháil leis an mias satailíte agus craoltar roinnt cláracha ó am go ham ar fiú iad a fheiscint - ar BBC 4 go háirithe. Pé scéal é, má bhíonn sé de nós ag RTÉ ceap magaidh a dhéanamh den duine a bhfuil an teanga náisiúnta ar a chumas aige b'é a mhalairt a bhí sé ag an BBC sa chás seo: http://vodpod.com/watch/2486528-fawlty-towers-manuels-english-comedy-greats-bbc Is geal leis an bhfiach dubh a ghearrcach féin.
