How is the name "Criomhthain" (I know it's Crohan in English) pronounced in Munster Irish? Is it [ˈcɾʲɔhənʲ], [ˈcɾʲu:hənʲ], [ˈcɾʲɔfʷənʲ], [ˈcɾʲi:hənʲ] or what? Pronunciation in the IPA would be appreciated. GRMA Go mairidh ár nGaelainn slán!

Woulfe says "in the spoken language, now Mac Crioṫan", which implies [ˈcɾʲɔhənˠ]. |

My old teacher (from Donegal but he had a teacher from Munster so the pronunciation he taught us may be the Munster one) taught us: [o ˈkʲɾ̝ɪɸʷɪnʲ] Learn Irish pronunciation here: http://loig.cheveau.ifrance.com/irish/irishsounds/irishsounds.html & http://fsii.gaeilge.org/

Go raibh maith agaibh, so [o ˈkʲɾ̝ɪɸʷɪnʲ] seems the most appropriate as I think I heard the similar pronunciation somewhere. Go mairidh ár nGaelainn slán!

Ceapaim gur bhainís míthuiscint. Níor fhiafraíos duit cé acu gur fhuaimnís an focal "le 't' mar atá i mBreatnais"! Táir t'réis rá gur "th" (ach "th" Béarlach nó "th" Gaelach?) a bhíonn i t'fhuaimniú cé gur "t" a dúrais roimhe seo. Cé acu atá i gceist go fírinneach? |
