I was reading a short story this evening that contained the phrase "Baineadh dá chothrom é" (he lost his balance).
Easy enough, I've heard that expression before. But it occurred to me that I'd never heard it used in the 1st or 2nd person.
Should I expect "Baineadh de mo chothrom é" for the 1st person? If not, what?

Logically it would be mé at the end.

Baineadh dem chothrom mé.

Yes, I'm pretty sure it should be "baineadh de mo chothrom mé" (or "dem chomthrom" if you like it flavoured), literally 'I was taken off my balance'. It's the same kind of phrase as "buaileadh go dona mé" (I was beaten badly), "chonacthas ansin mé" (I was seen there) and so on.

GRMA; I wasn't sure which item the final pronoun referred to -- myself (mé) or my balance (é).

If my analysis is right (and I very strongly fancy it is), then the final pronoun refers to yourself (to the person whose balance is being lost).
