In Irish class we had a debate whether to use 'in bhur gcónaí/ in bhur seasamh' or i bhur gcónaí/ i bhur seasamh' The grammarbooks and the internet couldn't enlighten us. Are both ways correct? If not why is one right and the other not?
Is there perhaps someone on the forum to help?

In bhur is found in the Christian Brothers' grammar, i.e. "Scríobhtar in i gcorrchás eile: in bhur; in dhá áit, in b, in c; in Cré na Cille, etc." (22.2). That's probably as close as you can get to an official word on the subject. |

Actually, although you write bhur in the Standard, I guess very few native speakers would use it as "bhur" (maybe in Muskerry?).
Normally :
Ulster: mur
Connemara: a
Munster: úr.
in your:
Ulster: i mur, in mur or 'n mur
Connemara : ina
Munster: inúr

Go bhfios dom, /u:r/ is the usual form in Muskerry as well.
Dá mbeinn ag scríobh i nglan-chanúint, as inúr a bhainfinn feidhm. |
