Hi,

My mother said that her uncle used to call her a:

"balin o' fad".

I am reproducing what I heard so this may not be the exact pronunciation and certainly not exact wording as I'm trying to show the expression phonetically.

Does anyone know what this Irish term is?

Thanks,
Everett

It may have been a reference to any of the placenames so sounded, e.g. Béal an Átha Fada - Ballinafad, on the Sligeach - Ros Comáin border.

Was your granduncle from the area, or from Galway, Mayo, or the midlands where other names, identical or close the one above are, b'fhéidir - perhaps?
