I'd like to say I have good conversational Irish but am horrible with reading and writing because I learn most through the gealtheacht,

Anyway from timew to time I need simple words translated
there was no main translation thread so I want to start one. Please ask anything you like and help if you can.

A term I like to use there is "ciall ceannaithe" - literally "bought sense" or sense paid for by hard experience.

otherwise just "ciall" would seem the common usage.

common = coitianta - but this is not related

e.g. - "go coitianta" = often or commonly
