Éist liom, a dhriofúr. Question: would the first R in dhriofúr properly be pronounced slender or broad? It is the initial sound in the word, which could indicate broad... but it only becomes the initial sound due to the vocative case, and is fronted by the nullified D, so it's not the first letter in the word, which might indicate slender. I'm probably overanalyzing but it will drive me bananas if I don't ask. |

Pronounce it slender -it is being masked by the first semi-vowel. Someone probably knows counter examples |

It *is* slender. The dh is not nullified, it is pronounced, as a y-sound. You can hear both sounds. I can record it if you like. Learn Irish pronunciation here: www.phouka.com/gaelic/sounds/sounds.htm & http://fsii.gaeilge.org/

"I can record it if you like." Actually, if you wouldn't mind, that would be great. |

Here it is: http://media.putfile.com/A-dhriofa-r Tell me if it doesn't work. I tried to make a Munster pronunciation since "a dhriofúr" is mainly a Munster form. Learn Irish pronunciation here: www.phouka.com/gaelic/sounds/sounds.htm & http://fsii.gaeilge.org/

Tá sé ag oibriú dhomsa. Tá sé aisteach--is trí shiolla atáim ag clos in áit dhá cheann. |

Cá bhfuil trí shiolla ? Ins an taifeadadh nó ins na háiteacha ar chualaidh tú ’n focal sin? Deireamsa "a dhrio- fúr", ie. trí shiolla, ceart go leor. Learn Irish pronunciation here: www.phouka.com/gaelic/sounds/sounds.htm & http://fsii.gaeilge.org/

D’úrt mé "uh y-ri-foor", más mian leat. Is leathchonsan an y- anseo. Learn Irish pronunciation here: www.phouka.com/gaelic/sounds/sounds.htm & http://fsii.gaeilge.org/
