Hi All,

Can anyone tell me if Beo ionainn is the proper translation for Alive in us or Alive within us?

Thanks for any help.

That's a correct translation. The fuller version is usually "Go bhfanaidh do chuimhne beo ionainn." "My your memory remain alive in us."

Ceartúchán: Go bhfana do chuimhne beo ionainn. [Tá an foshuiteach láithreach ag teastáil anseo.]

Or alternatively, as a statement of fact: Fanfaidh do chuimhne beo ionainn.

= Your memory will remain alive in us.

Beidh tú beo ionainn go deo. = You will live in us forever.

Nach bhfuil "go bhfanaidh" ina fhoshuiteach láithreach fosta?
Is é an seanlitriú (agus an fhoirm i nGaeilg Uladh) atá ann, déarfainn.
go bhfanaidh = go bhfana

1) go bhfanaí / go bhfana mé/sé/etc. a deirtear i nGaeilge Uladh agus is mar sin a scríobhann Dónall Ó Baoill é.

2) Is cuma faoin seanlitriú anseo. Ní nós le D_b_n_dt an litriú sin a úsáid, agus is í Gaeilge na Mumhan is ansa leis.

3) Nuair a iarrann duine nach bhfuil aon/mórán G(h)aeilge aige orainn abairt a aistriú go Gaeilge, ar nós EJC thuas, tugann muid Gaeilge Chaighdeánach dó de ghnáth, ní foirm stairiúil ná foirm chanúnach.
