Maidir le "bhíodh muid"...

An féidir go fág ar lár "muid" mar gheall ar an fuaimniú "bhíodh" le "dh" de cuimilteach?

(I probably murdered that horrifically. Let me know if I'm writing Cavemanese and I'll just say it out as Béarla.)

I didn't understand your question : why would we drop the "muid" ? How would you know we say "we used to be" if we don't use the word "muid" nor any ending that says that the subject is "we" ?

One could drop the "muid" because it seems to be the only form where the final dh in bhíodh is sounded as a fricative. In all other forms it's sounded as a slender t or the form is irregular.

D'fhéadfaí an "s" a bhaint den fhocal "agus" freisin, is dóigh, ós amhlaidh nach dtiocfaí salach ar fhocal eile.

Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!

Hmm ...
Bhíodh muid i gConamara.
Bhíodh [...] i gConamara. Cé a bhíodh? An mbínn nó an mbímis nó an mbíodh duine eile?

Céard faoi: 'Bhíodh Domhnall'?

"Bhíodh Domhnall"

Well, that answers that! I can't believe I didn't think of that. Thank you!

(BTW, I asked this question because in Learning Irish, an example is given where the phonetic rendering omitted the "muid", where the corresponding 3rd person singular rendering expressly indicated "sé." Apparently it was a simple omission and I overanalyzed, as usual. :)
