Tá an-bhrón orm a rá gur imigh ár sean chara, Seán Tierney, ar shlí na fírinne inniu. Seán (John) Tierney passed away this morning after battling a brain tumor for more than a year. Grásta ó Dhia ar a anam. Seán was a native of County Mayo who emigrated to the U.S. where he married and raised a family. He never forgot his beloved Ireland and he always remained particularly devoted to an Ghaeilge. Seán was a dedicated teacher for Daltaí na Gaeilge and was much beloved by his students and felow instructors. Seán and his wife Helen also established a scholarship to send Daltaí na Gaeilge instructors to Ireland every year for advanced studies. The scholarship is named in honor of their son John Patrick Tierney, a firefighter who was killed in the attack on the World Trade Center.

Helen Tierney has asked me to share the following information with Seán's many friends and students. Please also share this information with others.

Bhí Seán mar mhúinteoir agam, an t-aon deireadh seachtaine Dhaltaí ar fhreastal mé air. Gaeilgeoir fuinniúil, múinteoir maith agus duine an-chineálta.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!

Áiméan a deirim.

Agus is cuí go bhfuil duine dá chuid iardhaltaí ag léiriú a comhbhróin i nGaeilg faoi, go ndéana Dia grásta air.
