I know this is really new, but I was wondering if anyone has purchased, or can tell me anything about a new course on the market?

I found this on Amazon today and I am interested in maybe getting it:

http://www.amazon.com/Speaking-Irish-DVD-Siuan-Mhaonaigh/dp/0071475621/ref=sr_1_ 5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1210019413&sr=8-5

Speaking Irish (DVD Edition) by Siuan Ni Mhaonaigh, Antain Mac Lochlainn

Hardcover: 225 pages
Publisher: McGraw-Hill; 1 edition (December 12, 2007)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0071475621
ISBN-13: 978-0071475624
Product Dimensions: 9.1 x 7.6 x 0.8 inches

I guess the DVD is about 120 minutes of material covered in the book. Sounds interesting.

Her indoors bought it, likes it, I think it is good as it is natural, VERY natural and thys guite raw, theres a mistake or two.

It takes people throught th 'dialects' well enough, I thought there could be a bit more to it considering the price and I am always dissapointed that there are no reps from the samller Gaeltachta.

We had a thread on this a while back when I posted about it.

I can't seem to find it.

I haven't seen it, but the people working on it have a good reputation.

Its VERY good I have it and was watching it today, its fluent speakers from all three dialects speaking on it and it gives you a book and it shows what they are saying and the English translation in the book, its really cool!

Its aimed for advanced learners of Irish.

A Trigger,

Can you tell me how the book and the DVD work together?

In some courses, the conversations in a book are played out on video. Is this the case with this course? Or does the video offer more?

Does the video cover the majority of the material in the book?

The book has everything on the DVD what the Irish speaker is saying and it makes sure you start to understand the speaker by giving you hints and giving you exercises if you study most of the book your Irish will improve greatly with out a doubt.

The book offers more for example each page is about the person talking for example if there is a speaker from Munster it will show you the Munsterisms that he or she is using and shows you other words that is unique in Munster, same with Connacht and Ulster too.

I really recommend you getting Speaking Irish if you want to get much better in Irish.

Tír gan teanga, tír gan anam.

The dialog is fully written out in the book ,with one or two bits of vocab and some hints on dialectal features that you may not understand. Subtitles would be better! Actually, there is a way of making your own subtitle file and electronically combining it...
