Mm, is mionphointe suarach saoithíneach é seo, b'fhéidir, ach is é "uimhir baile" a mholfainn, .i. gan séimhiú ar "baile." Ní cineál faoi leith uimhreach atá i gceist (cosúil le "culath mhairnéalaigh") ach uimhir a bhaineanns le baile (cosúil le "culaith mairnéalaigh.")

Maidir le "mobile number," b'fhearr liom féin "uimhir fóin phóca" nó "uimhir gutháin póca." De réir mar a thuigim an Béarla is ainmfhocal é an focal "mobile" anseo seachas aidiacht. Ní hé go bhfuil an uimhir féin mobile/soghluaiste!

Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!

"Uimhir bhaile" a mholann Foras na Gaeilge:

http://www.gaeilge.ie/using/terms/cat_search_results.asp?subCatId=34&parentId=4

Ach feicim, a bhuí le Google, go bhfuil "uimhir baile" ar chúpla suíomh ar an idirlíon freisin.

Is pointe gramadaí é seo atá beagnach gan réiteach, sa "saol réadúil" ar aon nós. Tá na hargóintí go léir cloiste agam ar na fora Gaeilge, níos mó ná uair amháin, agus níl mé puinn níos compordaí anois an gceist sin ná mar a bhí mé sular bhuair mé mo cheann léi! ;-)

a Abigail,

tuigim, níl an uimhir soghluaiste, ach an uimhir sHoghluaiste í?

Wouldn't uimhir soghluaiste like gúthan soghluaiste mean portable number (the number is easily moved) but uimhir shoghluaite mean the "number of portable," taking the adjective and making it function as a noun, béarla-style?

An rud atá molta ag an bhForas, ba dhána an mhaise domsa a cháineadh!
(E pur essa non ammorbidire...)

A Antaine, más ainmfhocal é s(h)oghluaiste caithfidh gurb é a thuiseal ginideach é. Cén t-ainmfhocal a bheadh i gceist? D'fhéadfaí dul i muinín an ainmfhocail theibí soghluaisteacht, ach is é an coincheap teibí a bheadh i gceist ansin seachas uirlisín na gcnaipí, is dóigh liom.

Uimhir sHoghluaiste is fine because soghluaiste is an honest-to-goodness adjective, so after a feminine noun it lenites; end of story. No DeNTaLS exception (in the C.O. anyway) and none of this gloine fíona/gloine fhíona claptrap either.

Tá fáilte roimh chuile cheartú!
