For those who remember Jonas:

Does anyone recall what his job was and where in the Gaeltacht he spent most of his time? I recall him saying he spoke nothing but Irish in his summer visits.

He seems to have vanished from this board.

I tried a different search option this time and came up with something.

He lived in Baile an Fheirtéaraigh and learned Irish there (although I believe he learned the basics back in Sweden beforehand). Also lived in Tír an Fhia, Leitir Móir, Ceantar na nOileán

Again no. I stayed at the same place as he had. Never seen him. This may be a great place for language immersion provided you are good enough already. Jonas said it himself and I would only second this emotion, you need to get yourself up to scratch before you go there.

He left because he was been attacked during a period of civil unrest on this board, so the archives seem to attest

I think that when people leave in a huff over something that is said to them even though they've been here forever without incident it shows a lack of personal security and bravery. I mean for goodness sake even if the all of you were dissing on me and telling me I was stupid I'd stick around, partly just to spite you all and partly because I have a happy history on this board and I wouldn't let some disgruntled folk screw that up. Besides those episodes always blow over if given time, everyone settles down and things go back to civil communications. I think that when people leave who are valued it causes more trouble than if they just stuck it out since their information is important and benifits all.
