Does the copula have an autonomous form?

Not in Modern Irish, as far as I know.

Learn Irish pronunciation here: www.phouka.com/gaelic/sounds/sounds.htm & http://fsii.gaeilge.org/

Abigail's winking face was well placed there. Ag spraoi a bhí sí. Níl an focal "saorchopail" san fhoclóir ar chor ar bith. We do have the word "saorbhriathar" = free verb = autonomous verb, i.e. all those forms which do not specify the subject or actor, ar nós "déantar = (someone) does". But the copula has never had such forms, not even in Old Irish as passive forms.

"An seanchas gearr,
an seanchas is fearr."

When you have the likes of "Is maith liom", "Is fearr liom, "Is aoibhinn liom", I consider the autonomous form to be when you take out the "le + person".

Is féidir liom é a bhriseadh = I can break it

Is féidir é a bhriseadh = It can be broken
