Doesn't daoine mean people and duine mean person? That is what I always thought. I could easily be wrong however.

Tá an ceart agat, Ríona. They sound rather like DEE-nuh and DIH-nuh respectively, a Dhomhnaill. The long vowel in "daoine" is actually temporally longer. Maybe I should show it as DEEE-nuh.

In Donegal, we say daoiní [ˈd̪ˠɨːɲi] and duine [d̪ˠɪɲɪ].

Well, that was a no-brainer. Sorry about that! For some reason I had it firmly in mind that both words were plurals and there was some obscure difference. Duh.
