Hi all,
I am looking for some help in translation into Irish for a tattoo that my father, brother and i are getting. We were thinking of something along the lines of "Blood of Riley"and or "Irish Blood". I appreciate the help and am open to other suggestions, thank you.

All due and proper respect to the unregistered guest, but you may want to await confirmation on this. There was an unfortunate recent incident where somebody had a huge tattoo inked and it was only afterward that they discovered it meant pretty much the precise opposite of the meaning intended. Be careful. :)

Hi! My family has a huge Irish history and I too am after translation for a tattoo. I want it to say 'To run wild; To run free'. I believe 'To run wild' is translated as 'Dul i bhfiáin' and i believe 'I run free' is 'Dulaim i saor' but I would prefer TO run free. Can any body please help?!

I am wanting to get a tattoo dine of my left arm of both of my sons names 'Samuel Henry' or just 'Samuel' and 'William Thomas' or just "William' in traditional script and spelling.

My wife has left us and I want to get this done for me and my sons to symbolise that they will always be part of me and I will never leave them.

Any assistance would be greatly appeciated as this is VERY important to me.

The idea of a "translation" is that an idea conveyed in language A is interpretted by someone who speaks both language A and language B, and then expresses the idea as in language B. An example would be:

He closed the door before he opened the window = Dhún sé an doras sular oscail sé an fhuinneog

Names, proper names, cannot be translated. A name has no meaning, it's just a sound we say to indicate who we're talking to or who we're referring to. (Sure, they say that some names have meanings but lets not get into that...).

Some names, however, are so closely related between two languages that people go so far to say that they're a "translation"; examples would be:

Thomas = Tomás
Michael = Micheál
Patrick = Pádraig

The thing is though, that these are different names, and depending on who you ask, it's not a greate idea to "translate" them.

What I'd suggest is you get "Samuel" and "William" tattooed on you. I suppose you could get it in Irish script if you wanted, but it wouldn't make sense since the names aren't Irish.
