I'm pretty sure óglach is right though, I just need confirmation

You're correct. The singular of óglaigh is óglach.

In this context, "sé" means "yes". I don't know if you were arguing that it was ambiguous, but if so then your argument holds about as much water as saying that English's "no/know" is ambiguous.

Sé = 'S é = Is é = He/it is.
I pronounce "is é" always like "sé" and so it is common to write "sé".

An óglach é? - Is é. = Is it óglach? - Yes, it is.
