If Donegal has the greatest number of young native speakers, should it not be made the official tongue, along English? This would result in gov publications losing that odd 'um' thingy.

Discuss.

A bhuachaill. Seo chugainn é.

Ní maith é an duine a bheith leis féin.

Another advantage would be to have a version somewhat more intelligible to speakers of Scottish Gaelic who currently have just under 60,000 speakers. It might also require the spelling to brought into line with the spoken language. Ciarán Ó Duibhin has suggested a separate standard for Ulster Irish.

Ach caol seans go dtarlóidh sé. Tá an-chumhacht pholaitiúil san Iarthar agus ó Dheas.

B'fhéidir go mbeidh níos mó tionchar ag Tír Chonaill anois agus FF neamhspleách thar nais le FF.

Agus ní dóigh liom go bhfuil aon chaint ar an gCO in Éirinn, murab ionann agus anseo: tá glactha leis.

A Aonghuis,
De réir mo bharúlasa, tá an-chumhacht pholaitiúil i réim i mBleác Claith agus i RnaG, TnaG agus an Roinn Oideachais agus Eolaíochta. B'fhéidir go bhfuil an dul amú orm ach i ndáiríre tá an cumhacht ag na meáin chumarsáide. Maidir leis an CO, tá glactha leis, níor chuala mé trácht air le tamall anuas.

Níl ann ach mo tuairimí.

Táim ar aon fhocail leat. Cursaí teangain a bhí i gceist agamsa; tá lárionad cumhachta Eamóinn Uí Chuív thiar.

Níl an ‘caighdeán’ chomh holc sin mar atá ach caithfear iarracht a dhéanamh nasc is láidre a dhéanamh lenár gcairde in Alba...

An rud is fearr dar liom ná go mbeadh aitheantas tugtha do na canúintí ar fad ina gceantair féin...

A people without a language of its own is only half a nation.A nation should guard its language more than its territories, 'tis a surer barrier and a more important frontier than mountain or river

Rud atá. Ní bhaineann an caighdeán leis sin.
