Ar chuala éinne trácht riamh ar an ainm seo? Tháinig mé féin air don chéad uair inniú, 'bhfuil a fhios ag éinne cad é an leagan béarla den ainm? Ní "Lisa" atá ann, nó leagan aisteach de "laoidh", an ea?

Chuala my an ainm Laoise, agus measaim go bhfuil siad an rud céanna. Measaim go bhfuil 'Laoise/Laoiseach' an Gaeilge ar 'Lucy'.

A Chairde,
Here's what An tAth. Pádraig de Bhulbh had to say in Irish Names and Surnames:

LABHAOISE, Louisa; the fem. form of Alabhaois (Aloysius)

LUIGHSEACH, Lucy; the fem. form of Lughaidh; the name of an Irish virgin saint who was vererated on 22 May.

It would appear that Laoise is a modernization of LABHAOISE. Irish male names such as Lughaidh and
Laoi(gh)seach were anglicized as Louis and Lucius.
