A client is obliged to provide an annual crimfheis, 'garlic feast', for his lord. If he fails to do so, he must pay his lord a fine of three séts. Judging from later glosses, it seems that this feast consisted of garlic with cheese and milk, and that it took place before Easter (ar cháiscc).

This is from Early Irish Farming. The "garlic" in question was not our bulbs and cloves, but rather Allium ursinum, aka ramsons, aka ramps, a wild garlic with edible leaves, more like a scallion.

Tá mé cinnte go mbeidh mé in ann anraith an-deas a dhéanamh as creamh, bainne, min choirce, cáis, agus salann.

an seanchas is fearr."

ar Cháiscc = before Easter = Carghas (Lent), b'fhéidir?

Is docha gurbh é béile é chun Aointe i rith Carghas ós rud é (since) nach raibh feoil ann.

Fáilte roimh cheartúcháin, go raibh maith agaibh.
