Cad is ainm duitsa? - cleachtadh as Gaeilge

Dia dhuit. Conas tánn tú? Táim ar fheabhas. Is mise Maidhc anseo, ach Seán Micheál Tómas is ainm dom. Maidhc atá ormsa. Is fearr liom mar sin é. Is fada an scéal seo. Chláraigh mé anseo le Mícheál mar ní raibh a fhios agam faoi Maidhc as Gaeilge ansin. Anois, tá a fhios agam.

Cad fútsa?

(What is your name? - practice in Irish

Hello. How are you? I am excellent. I am Mike here but John Michael Thomas is my name. Mike is my name. I pefer that. This is a long story. I registered here with Michael because I did not know about Mike in Irish then. Now I do know.

What about you?)

Is mise Mac Léinn, aka Mac Léinn na Gaeilge, aka Mac Léinn Prátaí,...... agus araile, agus araile, agus araile.

A Mhíchíl, go raibh maith agat as an eolas de Maidhc. Is Michael (aka Mikey, aka Micheál) atá ag mo mhic nios oige. Tá Gaeilge beagan aige agus beidh sé sasta faoi Maidhc. Is it Maidhc pronounced similar to "Mike" as Béarla?

Fáilte roimh ceartúcháin, go raibh maith agaibh.

A Mhac, Quote: Is it Maidhc pronounced similar to "Mike" as Béarla? Yes. I would write more in Irish right now about this but I have about five seconds to catch my ride to NYC for the day. I will say more later. Slán.

faoi Maidhc

faoi Mhaidhc

atá ar mo mhic nios is óige

> atá ar an m(h)ac is óige agam. (Cf New Irish Grammar p. 72, §12)

Nil mo fhíor-ainm go maith as Gaeilge.

> m'fhíorainm

Please notice that "as Gaeilge" has been widely spread among Irish learners because "as" doesn't trigger any mutation. However, may you know that most native speakers say "i nGaeilge" and only few of them use "as Gaeilge". If you use "as Gaeilge" in Donegal for example, people will immediately know that you've learnt Irish at school or with books.

Bhí sé ceart agam faoi "Maidhc" a scríobh.

An t-ainm seachas aon duine áirid a bhí i gceist, mar sin ní bheadh seimhiú i gceist sa chás seo.

Bheadh "mo mhac is óige" ceart go leor, dar liom - ach rinne mé dearmad gan "mhic" a cheartú go "mhac".

Bhí mé ag iarraidh an t-athrú is lú ba ghá a dhéanamh.

A Mhaidhc, a Lughaidh, agus a Aonghus, go raibh maith agaibh.

In regard to is versus níos, ba mhaith liom ceist a cur.

I have two sons. The one mentioned above is the younger of the two. I thought that I should use "níos" above since I was talking about the younger. I have three children. The younger son mentioned above is the youngest child. I thought in the situation that I was talking about children, then I would use is. But I know I'm confused on this subject and I know that at times is is used to refer to "younger."

Go raibh maith agaibh.

Fáilte roimh ceartúcháin, go raibh maith agaibh.

Is mise Máirtin Ó hUigin . Táim i gCorcaigh faoi láthair. Nil an coladh ag teacht orm, cé go bhfuil mé tuirseach tréan. Táim ag smaoineamh ar Mám na Gaoithe, an áit álainn sin i gCorca Dhuibhne i gContae Chiarrai. Tá teach againn ansin. "Suaimhneas" an ainm a chuir muid ar an teach. Is deas an focail sin, agus tagann suaimhneas orainn gach am a bhiomar ansin.

Is ceann de na Gaeltachtai Corca Dhuibhne, agus dá bhri sin tá suim sa teanga tagtha orm le déanai. Bim ag cleachtadh go minic chun feabhas a chur ar mo chuid Ghaeilge. Táim beagán faitiosach chun Gaeilge a labhairt - nil si go liofa agam. Tá moráin di caillte agam if bhfad o shin

Failte roimh ceartúcháin (no fadas available for i or o on this machine)
