Tá seanfhocal ann: "Bíonn blas ar an mbeagán"

Tugann an míniú "Little things tend to be tasty" air anseo: http://www.daltai.com/proverbs/weeks/week25.htm ach dúirt múinteoir liom (as Conamara) gur an mhalairt atá i gceist: ní thaitníonn an beagán le daoine (eg "a small portion has a (bad) taste)".

Cé acu atá ceart?

A Dhuibh,

I would agree with the Conamara's teacher. We have the proverb "The appetite comes while eating", so I understand Irish equivalent that one starts to feel hunger/taste only after having eaten a bit. "Little things tend to be tasty" - is more about moderation in eating, and this is not the sense of "Bíonn blas ar an mbeagán" in my opinion.

Is mise 7rl

Níl sibh ar aon intinn le Niall Ó Dónaill mar sin, ná le Seosamh Mac Muirí a scríobh an méid seo anseo i Mí an Mhárta:
quote:

Maith thú a Rómáin, ís deas an rud an beagán ar aon chuma. Bíonn blas ar an mbeagán i gcónaí.

Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar.

Sin an chiall a bheadh agamsa leis chomh maith.

Ach is minic gur féidir níos mó ná ciall amhain a bhaint as nath cainte.

Seo nath eile a bhfuil mórán an chiall chéanna leis:

As a bhlaiseadh is fearr é. = A little of it tastes good.

s.v. blais in FGB (Ó Dónaill)

Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar.
