I think it would be grand if all of the English language programs had Irish subtitles, then there would always be Irish in every program, even if it was just written Irish. I liked seeing TG4 while I was in Ireland. I think that it is one of the best things for the language, making it more appealing to youth. I think that more children's programs in Irish would be especially benificial.

Going on from what Riona has just said, if they could use some volunteers who would in an 'open source' fashion watch and hammer out translations collectively so that each program had the other language on it, it would be great.

If it were all in digital, one could turn on or off the subtitles.

Alas, cant see that happening

Now that is a good idea a BRN. That way if people didn't need/want said subtitles they wouldn't be forced to have them, but if they did then they could have them on the screen.
