Meas tú ar thug sé an méid sin i mBéarla a Aonghuis nó an ea gur aistríodh é? Fanfaidh mé le cuntas i nGaeilge lena léamh. Tá an saol róghearr le bheith ag léamh sleachta fada Béarla is dóigh liom. Dingleachas fada a chuireas an doghrainn dinglise ionam. |

Interesting. Whether or not Finegael will improve the status of the Irish language should be tackled by someone else around here. What I will say is that indeed the curiculum really should be improved, as with the teaching methods for Irish because it is clear that something just isn't working since so many students leave school without good Irish. I think it would be grand if all public education was Irish medium, I imagine it would solve the low fluency rate among kids who should know more of the language after studying it for so long but don't because it isn't taught well at present. Beir bua agus beannacht. |

It's nice to see something like that. It doesn't seem drastic enough to me, but I'm sure I don't know enough about the situation. It just seems like a lot more could be done. A long term strategy is absolutely needed, that's for sure. I'm interested to see more discussion and opinion on the matter. Coimhéad fearg fhear na foighde.

I like the part about primary school immersion. that alone would work wonders, but does need to be bolstered by other things through adulthood... |

Fine Gael are too conservative to be able to change the massive tide of bad which our language has suffered. I agree with everything they have to say apart from ending compulsory gaeilge. The fact that the speak itself was through Béarla was the start of cynicism. One minute they're helping in higher EU status for Gaeilge. The next, they're trying to lower the status in it's homeland. Strange. A people without a language of its own is only half a nation.A nation should guard its language more than its territories, 'tis a surer barrier and a more important frontier than mountain or river
