Hi! What’s the best grammar book available? Is this a good one? http://www.litriocht.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=1033 Does anyone know why it weighs 50g more than its English version? :)) Is trom an teanga í an Ghaeilge… Peter |

An graiméar is fearr duitse, a Pheter, ó tá léamh na Gaeilge agat, ná Graiméar Gaeilge na mBráithre Críostaí. Is dóigh liom go bhfuil sé as cló anois, ach --creid uaim é -- b'fhiú duit cóip athláimhe de a chuardach. |

If someone knows where on the web I could find a copy of Graiméar Gaeilge na mBráithre Críostaí (1999 edition, I think, with a blue cover), please tell me, because I've been looking for a copy for maybe 5 years and I don't find any, anywhere... Tír Chonaill abú!

Because it is the newest one, the one I saw at the library when I was at Coleraine University (in 2001-2002). But at that time the book was already out of print. I know there are older editions but I think there are differences and the newest edition must be the best one. Tír Chonaill abú!

A Dennis, bhí a fhios ‘amsa go ndéarfá é :) Chuala mé a lán faoin leabhar gramadaí seo (a lot about, ceart?), agus ó am go ham úsáidim leagan achomair dhi (foilsithe in 1997, dar liom). Tá sé breá dearfa, ach is dóigh liom a bheith ro-achomair 7 feicim gur fearr leis na húdarachaí an Ghaelainn ná Gaeilge Chonnacht. Ach GRMA as do chomhairle ar aon chaoi, beidh mé dhá tóraíocht. Seo leabhar úsáideach eile: Modern Irish : Grammatical Structure And Dialectal Variation le Mícheál Ó Siadhail. Feicim go bhfuil cóipeanna de ar fáil ó www.abebooks.com. An bhfuil sé agat, a Lughaidh? Is dócha go nochtfaidh cóip de GGnamBC ar abebooks.com luath nó mall. Ba cheart dúinn uilig cuairt a thabhairt air go rialta. (Dála an scéil, tá clúdach dearg ar mo chóipse ó 1960.) |

Tá cóip de leabhar an tSiadhalaigh agam (cheannaigh mé í nuair a bhí mé in ollscoil Chúil Raithin, go díreach). Ceart go leor, is minic a cheanna’ mé leabharthaí ar abebooks.com ach go dtí seo chan fhuair mé cóip ar bith don leagan nuaidh do GGBC air, ar an drochuair. Tá mé ’tnúth le cionn a dh’fháilt! 'Bhfuil duifear mór eadar leagan 1999 agus a’ leagan atá agat ó 1960, a Dhonncha? Tír Chonaill abú!

One or more people here recommended Donna Wong's "A Learner's Guide to Irish". I have some issues with the layout, but the content is excellent. |

I have some issues with the layout, but the content is excellent. Yet, it comes short in some areas -she seems to assume lots of stuff -never assume with learners. ex: t prefixing to s is given but the Standard and Donegal differences are not given, plus more importantly, she gives feminine nouns, but does not point out that in the caighdéan masc nouns are not prefixed in the null after the def art, but both are in Donegal. Consequently, the learners will mutate it like a dialect via generalisation |
