OK, I start these threads every once in a while. It's time for a new one...

It would be fun to have a discussion thread about what you did yesterday or today (rather than a thread about Irish grammar itself). This lets us beginners practice everyday speaking Irish.

Keep it simple. Present (habitual), past, & future tenses; maybe even the imperative mood. Simple copula expressions (I can, I like, I prefer, etc.) are OK. Basically, anything up through Chapter 29 of Progress In Irish.

You can occasionally use more complex words or expressions, but it would really help us beginners if you defined those complex expressions or vocabulary in English.

Please feel free to correct. This is a way to learn.

However, please don't overtake the thread with discussions of grammar. If you want to make an extended point about grammar, please just start a new thread.

Go raibh maith agaibh, a chairde!

=====================

D'éirigh mé ag leathuair tar éis a cúig a chlog inné. Chuaigh mé ag an oifig. D'oibrigh mé go crua. Ach tá an deireadh seachtaine anseo anois!* Codlóidh mé. Agus scríóidh mé ag mo chara as Gaeilge.

*--OK, that's probably not right! Please correct me.

Oiche mhaith! Is mise Niamh, ta mé i mo chonai i Fhrainc. Ta mé nua anseo ("I'm new here? Is that correct?"). Ta mé tuirseach inniu. Ni dhearna mé rud ar bith. Ta mé ag eisteacht ceol Eireannach anois agus ansin déanfaidh foghlaim mé an Gaelige!

Oh dear. That sounds VERY WRONG Irish indeed! Please feel free to correct me! ;.). By the way, sorry for the a fadas, I can't make any sense of the "help with Fada section on this board! It's probably very straightforward... but I must be a bit dumb, I really ain't got a clue, sorry.Great thread by the way, Go raibh maith agat! :.)

Táimse traochta inniu freisin! Táimse anseo le fada, ach is maith liom duine nua a fheiscint!

Bhí mé ag éisteacht le ceol Mozart níos luaithe. Táim ró leisciúl chun aon rud a fhoghlaim. Murach sin, seans go foghlaimeoidh mé roinnt Fraincise níos deanaí!

Bhí mé ag éisteacht le Marlui Miranda ar maidin. Is maith liom an t-amhrán "Araruna". Éist leis an amhrán ag:

Ar maidin chuaigh mé ag siopadóireacht i lár na cathrach, Baile Átha Cliath. Chuaigh mé don gruagaire. Fear Síneach a ghearr mo chuid gruaige. Bhí mé an-sásta leis an jab a rinne sé. Tháinig mé abhaile ansin agus bhí dinnéar agam le mo mhac. Thaitin an lá go mór liom.

Oíche mhaith! Stefan a t-ainm atá orm. D'éirigh mé ar a dó dhéag a chlog inniu. Tá áthas orm mar tá laethanta saoire againn anois. D'ith mé mo bhricfeasta (deireanach) ... :-) agus ghlan mé mo chuid soithí as a dheireadh. Bhí tráthnóna deas agam le cairde dom - bhí muid ag caint le chéile agus chonaiceamar ar an teilifiseán.

Bhí gaoth mhór againn inné. Ní raibh leictreachas againn an lá ar fad.
Bhí an teach dorcha. Luigh m'fhear ar an leaba agus chuaigh a chodladh. Bhí mise i mo shuí ar an leaba ag seinm ar an bhfidil.
Bhuail mise is m'iníon Beethoven suas.

gaoth = wind
leictreachas = electricity
luigh = laid
codladh = sleep
seinm = playing
bhuail = struck

Yeah, it would be a start if there was a course in this city - with people "ag caint le chéile", you know? To get used to the simplest sentences and not to be unsure with myself all the time and every little thing I want to say...

Ar an drochuair, níl ach "Foclóir Scoile" agus foclóir "Irisch-Deutsch" (le Thomas Feito Caldas/Clemens Schleicher) agam...

Agus tá gaeilgeoir nó dhó san ambasáid.

Okay, bhí mé leisciúil inniu. D'éirigh mé ar a dó a chlog. Chonaic mé go leor ar an bhfiseán. Tá sneachta ann i Halle (an chathair a bhfuil mé i mo chónaí) agus tá sé an-fhuar i mo sheomra. Shiúil mé tríd(?) an tsneachta - is maith liom fuaim na sneachta faoi mo chosa.

Halle, Sachsen-Anhalt. Tá 250.000 daoine ina gcónaí anseo - not so much... We have language courses provided by the "Volkshochschule" (including Welsh) but not an Irish one...

Ar chuir tú ceist ar an VHS faoi ranganna?

Feicim (le cabhair ó Google) go bhfuil teach tabhairne darbh ainm "The Irish Fiddler" ann - céard faoi fógra a chuir ann?

Ní thuigim an abairt seo... :-(

quote:

Ar chuir tú ceist ar an VHS faoi ranganna?

Chuir. They don't have anybody who would lead the group - native speakers are always better, aren't they?

The owner of the "Irish Fiddler" was from BAC, ach ní raibh aon Ghaeilge aige ... believe me, I already tried. The management changed, by the way, a few months ago, so he isn't even there anymore.

Maidir le "Weinbergclub" ... they don't seem to be active a long time now. The start page is available in a lot of languages - I need to find the person who made the Irish one...

Go raibh maith agat as do neartú.
Stefan

Níl tuairim dá laghad agam!

Ach is ea!

sneachta [ainmfhocal firinscneach den cheathrú díochlaonadh]
braonta reoite uisce nó gal uisce a thiteann as an spéir ina gcalóga bána.

Easy come, easy go? N'fheadar! Ní ritheann aon nath ghonta liom.
