quote:

Marking the opening of the office of An Coimisinéir Teanga (Irish Language Commissioner) in Spiddal, Co Galway, yesterday, the President spoke of the enriching effect of a multicultural and multilingual society.

Such change should be a matter of celebration, Mrs McAleese said, speaking in Irish.

Cuimhnigh nach raibh focal Gaeilge aici nuair a céad toghadh í, agus tá fluirse aici anois. (Tógadh i Tuaisceart Éireann í).

Bhí píosa ar Lá freisin, ach níl se ar líne (go fóill?)

Fair play di agus don Chomisinéir Teanga freisin.

Meanwhile, back in France, Patrick le Lay, chief of the major television channel TF1, condemns France for Breton cultural genocide.

Léigh mé sin cheana féin ach chan athrann sin rud ar bith maidir leis a' Rialtas (is féidir go ndéanfaidh sé seo rud ineacht ar son na dteangthach beag nuair a bheas siad uilig marbh!). Agus níl Briotáinis aige'n fhear sin, cad é a ghéanfadh sé? Is iomaí duine a bhfuil ar an aon bharúil leis seo, san Académie Française féin, ach cha dtabharfadh siad ar a' Rialtas rud ar bith a dhéanamh ar son na dteangthach.
