Think I saw this somewhere on this forum some month's ago. I'd like the Gaelic version of the Deer's Cry/St Patrick's Breastplate.

And I only have a wee bit of the Irish. Trying to study on my own, but not till my next incarnation will I be able to get it right.

So...we've gone from sacred to profane. Noticed someone asking for the translation of "pog mo thoin" in a long list of Q&A. Thought everyone knew that!
The Deer's Cry I'm speaking of is probably more Pagan than Christian, perhaps a transplant from one to the other. Here's the Sasanach version:
I arise today through the strength of Heaven,
Light of Sun,
Radience of Moon,
Splendor of Fire,
Speed of Lightening,
Swiftness of Wind,
Depth of the Sea,
Stability of Earth,
Firmness of Rock.
Think I have it in right order! Try listening to the end of Shaun Davie's CD(where it's sung in English), THE PILGRIM. Better still, listen to the whole thing while lying on your back in a dark room and let your imagination run wild through Celtia. Got the CD about 6 years ago, from Ireland. Can't find people who are familiar with it.
Played it outdoors once, and when we got to the Deer's Cry etc, all the birds came over and sang along.

Rita Connolly did a beautiful rendition of the English version. It was used in the soundtrack of a TV drama a few years back but, sadly, I don't think she released it on an album...

The English is from Kunoi Meyers transaltion of the Old Irish.
I don't know if there is a modern Irish version. |

I'd prefer the "old" Irish. Have some dual language books, and though I don't know all that much, I can find my way with it. Any idea where I might find it? Have a feeling I was born in the wrong Era! Would love to hear how the language sounded when they were carving all those wonderful spirals.
