I have just a smattering of Irish but am determined to be more focussed and dedicated this year to my tapes and books, and hopefully enroll on-line at gaeltalk.net but, in the meantime, I'd like to make up some blank notecards that I can use to keep in touch with the many friends we've made on our trips to Ireland. I know this is a longer than usual translation request and won't feel slighted at all if you feel it is too much to ask so here goes: On the front of the card I want it to say: To those we love and see each day, and other loved ones far away. To all good firends who mean so much, and those with whom we're out of touch.... and then on the inside I'll put; "we're thinking of you" Then I'll leave the rest blank to add personal notes, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Go raibh maith agat. |

Ok. I'm just learning and its been a while since I've tried to make ant sort of translation for anyone. And definately wait to see from someone more fluent - but I'll give it go. Dona daoine sin aghráimid agus afheicimid lá gach aon Agus dona daoine eile agus dílis atá i bhfad ár súile Do ár gcairde gach uile abhíonn linn chomh fiúntach Agus dona daoine sin atá as ár gcairdreamh - Táimid ag smaoinamh oraibh. Please wait for someone to correct me. -Maidhc. |

To those we love and see each day, chucu siud a bhfuil grá againn dóibh, agus a fheicimid gach lá and other loved ones far away. agus iad siúd i gcéin a bhfuil grá againn dóibh To all good friends who mean so much, Chuig na dea cairde uile úd is mór linn and those with whom we're out of touch.... agus chucu siúd a bhfuil an nasc scaoilte leo and then on the inside I'll put; "we're thinking of you Tá sibh inár smaointe It is hard to get the rhythm of the original in an accurate translation, and I am no poet. |

Aonghus agus Maidhc: Go raibh maith agat. I know the Irish won't have the same "flow" or ryhme of the English, but it's the sentiment that's important. I appreciate your help. |
