what is the correct grammar in the irish translation of this address (and why): 13 Ballygassoon Rd 13 Bhóthar Bhaile Cois Abhann 13 Bóthar Bhaile Cois Abhann 13 Bóthar Baile Cois Abhann the middle one 'sounds' right to me but i dont know why :) basically, I'm asking about how the genitive works here... grmma |

Well if the Irish for "Ballygassoon" is "Baile Cois Abhann" (which by the way means "Town beside a river"), then the Irish for "13 Ballygassoon Road" is: 13 Bóthar Bhaile Cois Abhann Here's how it works: "Baile Cois Abhann" is considered as one definite noun, just like: Seán Máire Sasana Meiriceá Fear na mBróg Muintir na hÁite Dún na nGall To put the first four in the genetive, you séimhiú them and change them as appropriate: Cara Sheáin Madra Mháire Muintir Shasana Scoileanna Mheiriceá As for the latter four, you simply séimhiú the first noun: Leabhar Fhear na mBróg Tuairim Mhuintir na hÁite Scéal Dhún na nGall So to put "Bóthar" and "Baile Cois Abhann" together, you get: Bóthar Bhaile Cois Abhann (Note that the Irish for "river" is "abhainn", with an i. The genetive case is "abhann". It's in the genetive because of "cois". Beside a woman: cois mná The 13 doesn't alter it. |

I wonder could it be Tulach Dhún hAgáin (not sure about the spelling/grammar) The hill of the O’Hagan’s fort (O’Hagan is a common name in the area) |
