So what kind of media(movies, computer/video games, etc) is out there in Gaelige? I mean entertainment media because this is something that can really overall improve someone's language skills in any language. DVDs with an Irish audio track and subtitles would be fantastic for listening skills and improving reading speed as well as contributing to vocabulary. I have some Region 2 DVDs from France(I live in region 1: USA) and their having only French audio and subtitles has really helped me in giving me more common vocab and watching the movies over and over has helped my listening more than any other source. Unfortunately I have the feeling that DVDs with either Irish audio or subtitles are rare if any exist at all, but I thought I'd ask anyway just in case there really are. Is the government doing anything to encourage Irish in entertainment media besides using a TV tax to fund TG4? Go raibh maith agat. |

They are not doing much! as they are useless in most fields! Culture is foreign to them unless it has something to do with taking pints of Guinness in Kennedys pub in Drumcondra!! |

Hi TJ, There's not much about in the way of movies in Irish but try this link here, it seems you can order one or two here: http://www.conamara.org You might be interested in this too, you can get a DVD on Turas Teanga (after march 4th): http://www.rte.ie/tv/turasteanga/ I tried looking at the site of the Irish Film Centre but their website is rubbish, frankly. |
