Tá mé ag scríobh aiste agus ba mhaith liom a rá 'if i had been given it, i wouldn't have been happy' agus níl a fhios agam conas na briathra a rá. An bhfuil siad san aimsir chaite? sa mhodh coinníollach? an úsáidim dá nó má?? Táim an an an chaillte leis seo.
go ra' maith agaibh

Os rud é gur coinníoll hipitéiseach atá i gceist (you could have been given it, but you weren't), caithfidh tú "dá" a úsáid, móide an mhodh choinníollach. An gnáthbhealach chun é seo a rá ná: dá dtarfaí dom é, bheinn sásta.

Ceapaim gurb é an rud atá ag cur mearbhaill ort ná an aimsir réamhchaite sa Bhéarla: "if I had been". Níl a leithéid ar fáil sa Ghaeilge. Ní mór dhuit úsáid a bhaint as cleas éigin eile chun an ghné sin den bhrí a choinneáil san aistriúchán Gaeilge, mar shampla: dá dtarfaí dom ag an am sin/roimh an am sin é, bheinn sásta.

Sin í mo léamh féin ar an cheist, pé scéal é. Go n-éirí leat.

Sna cásannaí sine thig leat an "foshuiteach caite" a dh’úsáid, dar liom:

If I had been given it, I wouldn’t have been happy = Dá dtugtaí domh é, ní bhínn sásta.

A Mbm, cá háit a n-abartar "dá dtarfaí" in áit "dá dtabharfaí" ?

I mo chloigeann féin. Botún cló a bhí ann. "Dá dtabharfaí" an leagan ceart.

Marbh le tae agus marbh gan é = Some people are never satisfied! Ós rud é gur aiste atá ann, cuir tusa isteach na seanfhocail!

A people without a language of its own is only half a nation.A nation should guard its language more than its territories, 'tis a surer barrier and a more important frontier than mountain or river

Cad mar gheall ar rud éigin mar:

Ní sásta a bheinnse dá mba rud é gur tugadh dom é

mar bhealach leis an gciall úd a chur trasna...
