Thóg mé liom é go Toys R Us den chéad uair an tseachtain seo caite agus phléasc mé amach ag gáire nuair a scread sé os ard i nGaeilge: "Mamaí, féach ar an siopa seo! Tá gach rud acu anseo!" Agus bhí! Chuir sé lúcháir orm é a chloisteáil ag labhairt as Gaeilge i measc na siombailí uilig den chultúr tomhaltais sa tír seo.

Níor cheannaigh na Gaeilgeoirí aon rud ann, is dócha, mar níl ón 'gcultúr tomhaltais' seo iad. Nach láidir na Gaeil, agus páiste dá gcuid i siopa bréagán, agus gan fonn air aon rud a cheannach!

Deirtear go raibh suim ag na Sean-Ghaeil in ór agus airgead, fearacht chuile dhream eile ar domhan: ní le hiad a charnadh, áfach, ach le hiad a scaipeadh chun cáil agus clú a chosnamh dóibh féin. Mar a dúirt an duine aosta, "Is búaine blad iná seóid."

http://www.sengoidelc.com/node/210

Agus bhí siad in ann an clú a bhí uathú a cheannach outright, i riocht dánta molta! Mhairfeadh a gclú i bhfocail mar sin. Ach ní raibh dán dea-dhéanta saor ar chor ar bith!

Tomhaltóirí dánta a bhí iontu!

Smaoineamh fánach eile a spreag an focal "tomhaltas":

Aham annam aham annam aham annam.
Aham annâdo' ham annâdo' ham annâdah.

Paidir nó altú Hiondú é sin, i Sanscrait. Ciallaíonn sé:

Is bia mé, is bia mé, is bia mé.
Is tomhaltóir mé, is tomhaltóir mé, is tomhaltóir mé.

Bhuel, mar a deirtear as Béarla, "Don't eat yourself up over it."

Rinne mé dán beag molta duitse saor in aisce, tráth dá raibh, mar atá. Nílim in ann é a aimsiú anois. Gaeilge-B, b'fhéidir?
