It is a sad statement when I can can be accepted for trying to speak Irish in New York more readily than in Ireland. Spent all last night butchering this beloved language and I was welcomed for the effort. In Ireland a decade ago the reception was decidedly less welcoming.

From the articles I've read, the language is much more accepted in Ireland than it was a decade ago. I suppose it also depends on with whom you speak.
