I'm having genetive issues again. How would one say
"Property of" Sinéad Ní Riaghain?

Tá fáilte roim nach aon cheartú!

I'd say "Is le Sinéad Ní Righain é seo" (no genitive!)

However Cóta Shinéid Ní Riaghin.

Bhí breall orm: Seo a deir na bráithre:

9.35 Ní úsáidtear an ginideach sna cásanna seo
le ainm dílis mná roimh aidiacht aitreabúideach: seanmháthair Bhríd Mhór.
le ainm dílis mná nuair a bhíonn an sloinne ag gabháil leis: bainis Bhríd Ní Cheallacháin.

Mar sin: Cóta Sinéad Ní Riaghain

Cóta Shinéad Ní Riagháin ; is le Sinéad Ní Riagháin é seo (nach bhfuil á ann?).
Cibé ar bith sílim gur "Shinéad" foirm ghinideach an ainm "Sinéad". Cha bhíonn na hainmneacha ban ins an chéad díochlaonadh so cha dtig leat "Shinéid" a bheith agad.

Maidir leis an sloinne, níl fhios agam an bhfuil "á" ann.

Agus botún a bhí sa chéad freagra pé scéal é; ach "cloisim" caol an ainm ar chúis éigin. (ní minic a bhíonn gá agam le ainmneacha sa ghinideach agus ó tharla gan eolas comhfhiosach agam ar na rialacha ... bíonn daoine fearacht thusa de dhíth chun mé a chuir ar an gconair cheart!)

Dá mba Riaghain é cha bhfuaimneochthaí mar /ri:a:n'/ é ach mar /ri:(ə)in'/, ach dar liom go bhfuil -a- sa tsiolla dheireanach (Ryan i mBéarla, nach ea?).

Gentlemen,

First, I apologize for the delay in response. I was lacking computer access for a few weeks (in hospital). Thank you for the information! I like the whole "Is le Sinéad Ní Righain é seo" approach. Yes, a Lughaidh, it is "Ryan" in english. I do have a copy of na bráithre, but it is a bit too advanced for me yet. GRMA arís!

Tá fáilte roim nach aon cheartú!
