Its still a bit fuzzy for me in some areas because the literal translation is so different from what it actually means, but your explanation did help me understand that phrase. When it comes to idiomatic phrases I try hard to find a connection between the actual and literal meanings. Is there a connection like there here?

I had to find the meaning of "as alt" to mean "out of order". :) Ach tuigim anois.
