A chairde

Chuir mo chara ceist orm faoi an frás " road trip" as Gaeilge...

an bhfuil sé ceart a rá " Turas bóthair" nó Turas bhóthair?

Thug mé faoi deara ar an suíomh Pota Focal....

timpiste bhóthair nó timpiste bóthair = road accident

ar turas bóthair = hits the road

fógra bóthair = road sign

Ba mhaith liom a bheith ceart leis an bhfreagra.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

Tá na hainmfhocail 'turas/fógra' firinscneach agus dá bhrí sin is é "turas/fógra bóthair" (gan séimhiú) an leagan ceart. Tá 'timpiste' baininscneach áfach, mar sin tá "timpiste bhóthair" ceart.

"ar turas bóthair" > "ar thuras bóthair"

Sin de réir an CO.

Is the word "bóthar" necessary? What other sort of trips are there? Is it necessary to specify the mode of travel? turas bus / cairr / eitleáin / báid

aistear - a journey. aistear farraige - a journey by sea.

ród-aistear? Unless it is absolutely necessary for some reason to specify "road" as opposed to fields, mountains, bog, sand-dunes, sea, air ... I would think "road" is superfluous. A journey is a journey.
