I would appreciate your help with this conjugation. I cant find “áirmhídh” in any reference . Can anyone identify this form of the verb? I’m reading “An Odaisé” in Munster Irish (aistritheoir: Monsignor Pádraig de Brún) and in English (translator: Robert Fitzgerald). The context is the following: “Áirmhídh muintir an tsaoil seo ba mhó a fuair leanta, go bhfios daoibh, ní mo a gcreach na mo chreachsa, do raghainn i gcomórtas ar bhrón leo. “ Book VII I take this to mean: “Count me among the most long suffering people living…..” so wouldn’t that be the second person imperative? Thanks in advance for your help. |

I guess "áirmhídh" is the imperative 2pl of "áirigh/áirimh", to count, in Munster Irish. It is "áirígí" in standard Irish. Learn Irish pronunciation here: http://loig.cheveau.ifrance.com/irish/irishsounds/irishsounds.html & http://fsii.gaeilge.org/ |
