Is the Genitive Case used when you use the possessive pronoun...the name of my school...ainm mo scoil or ainm mo scoile or what?? Or is this even classified as Genitive? |

You use the genitive case when you have to ; possessive adjectives don't stop nor trigger the use of the genitive case, the use of the genitive case doesn't depend on possessive adjectives but on whether there's a noun that governs your noun or not. Ainm mo scoile, because it is "the name OF my school" or "my school'S name". And you say "ainm scoile", a school'S name, or the name OF a school. No possessive but you still use the genitive because there is some possession link between ainm and scoil. GRMMA, a Lughaidh! I have been wondering about that also. Yours was the clearest, most concise and easiest to understand explanation about genitives that I have ever read. Into the grammar notes it goes. (nótaí gramadaí - is that right?) Tá fáilte roim nach aon cheartú! |
