Hi, Im looking for a translation of the phrase "Show a little faith, there is magic in the night" I mean faith in a non-religious way, if that makes any difference in the way it is translated. 'Taispeáin creideamh beag, tá draíocht san oíche' seems like the best translation I have heard so far. 'Taispeáin roinnt creideamh' is another translation I have received. Also would 'muinín' would be a better word to use than 'creideamh'? Anyone who can confirm one of these translations or give a new one would be a great help. Thanks! |

Seconded. You might use "Léirigh" if what you intend is that the confidence should be clear to others, but it would be clunky. |

I'm not sure any native Gaeltacht speakers would actually use "léirigh" in the imperative in a wish, say. It strikes me as a calque of English "Show a little enthusiasm/faith/belief/motivation for a change!" |

Ba dhlúthchairde iad ón gcéaduair a bhuail siad le chéile |

D'éiríodar an-mhór le chéile ón nóiméad a casadh ar a chéile i dtosach iad. |

Ní hionann "casadh ar dhuine"/"bualadh le duine" agus "aithne a chuir ar dhuine". |

Ní hionann. Ach is ionann "first met" agus bualadh/casadh le duine. Ní haithne go haontíos! |

D'fhág mé "don chéad uair" ar lár sa méid a scríobh mé thuas. Ach tar éis meabhrú air, géillim do'd dara leagan. Carmanach's most recent version best captures the English. |
