As per Seánw's suggestion, I started reading Taisce Focal. I was hung up on the first sentence for awhile but after skipping it I could get my way through the rest of the page however I'm still confused at the first sentence. Would anyone like to help me make sense of it?

quote:

Bhí cuma ar Shinéad agus ar Nuala gur ag cur thart an ama a bhí siad agus iad ina suí ag an tábla ag ól cupa tae.

Sinéad and Nuala looked like they were passing the time as they were sitting at the table drinking tea.

I'd read it the same as David.

I'll try to break it apart, but I could be wrong.

Bhí cuma ar Shinéad agus ar Nuala = An appearance was on Sinéad and Nuala = Sinéad and Nuala looked like

gur ag cur thart an ama a bhí siad = that passing the time which they were = they were passing the time

agus iad ina suí ag an tábla = and them in their sitting at the table = as they were sitting at the table

ag ól cupa tae = at a cup of tea's drinking = drinking a cup of tea

Almost right, David.

"ag cur thart an ama" "killing time", here, I think.

Same with me Paploo when I read it. And there are more that will make your head work. Just ask, though.
