I have modernised the spelling of PUL's Christmas Day sermon (taken from his Seanmóin is Trí Fichid) and it can be viewed at http://www.corkirish.com/wordpress/archives/1469

Leamhnú Dé = deonú Dé (the will of God)

Leamhnú is cross referenced to deonú on Ó Dónaill's dictionary.

Ar léighis an seanmóin go léir? Cad a cheapann tú? Ar sheanmóin maith a thug sé uaidh?

Tá an seanmóin sin ráite go díreach tar éis an soiscéil a léigheadh - agus mar sin tá an chéad abairt beagáinín doiléir "gan amhras do mheas an t-Impire ardchomhachtach san a bhí an uair sin ina cheann ar Impireacht na Rómha gur ag déanamh a thoile fein a bhí sé nuair a chuir sé amach an t-ordú san".

Tá sé ag tagairt do dhaonáireamh na Impireachta gur thug Iósaf agus Muire go Betlehem - ach is dóigh liom gur thuigis ón gcomhthéacs é...

Thuig, gan amhras.

Is fada ó chuala mé aitheasc a bhí chomh bunaithe ar an soiscéal! Mar sin, togha aithisc is ea é, dar liom. Ach ba chróga an sagart a thabharfadh ceann mar é anois, agus ní i líonmhaire atá a leithéidí de shagart ag dul.

quote:

Sagart óir agus cailísí crainn
A bhí le linn Phádraig in Éirinn;
ach sagairt chrainn agus cailísí óir
I ndeireadh an domhain dearóil.

Tá an ceart agat, a Aonghus. Is fearr liomsa na sagairt a choimeád cóngarach don soiscéal ina aitheascaibh pé thuairimí air atá acu. Ach d'airíos go raibh i bhfad níos mó sagairt den tsaghas "fire and brimstone" agaibhse in Éirinn ná mar atá againne i Sasana - b'fhéidir ná fuilid siad mar sin a thuilleadh ar a ndrochuair!
