quote:I note that Lughaidh's real name in Loig -right? Or is it Louis in French and only turned into Loig for Breton purposes?
Shouldn't you just ask this to me in an e-mail? :-)
My first name is Loïc - a Breton name in its French spelling ; the Breton spelling is Loig (my parents don't speak Breton and anyway when I was born it wasn't common to give Breton names with their Breton spelling - once it was even forbidden to give Breton names). Loïc/Loig is a diminutive of Loeiz which is the Breton version of Louis. And since the Irish equivalent of Louis/Lewis is Lughaidh, I use it in Irish.

In Donegal it is pronounced /Lui:/ ; I guess it is /luig'/ in Munster.
